FRANZ-HERMAN BRÜNER, DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE EUROPEAN ANTI-FRAUD OFFICE PASSED AWAY
On 10 January the European Commission informed that Franz-Herman Brüner, Director-General of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) died at the age of 64 in Munich (Germany).
At Munich University F. H. Brüner he studied law, economics and political science, worked as a prosecutor in Germany and at the Office of the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina. The European Commission upon the receipt of the positive opinion of the Steering Committee of the European Anti-Fraud Office and after consultations with the European Parliament and Council of Ministers appointed F. H. Brüner Director of the European Anti-Fraud Office since 1 March 2000.

VAT fraudsters sentenced to total of 133 years
- More than 20 people have been sentenced to a total of 133 years for their part in a series of major mobile phone carousel fraud conspiracies in the UK. Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) said on Friday that its lawyers had concluded more than seven years of work on three interconnected carousel or “missing trader” VAT fraud cases. More »
